So here we are again with another mix of Christmas tunes. This year, because of the pandemic, I was able to gather songs from all the albums I digitized last year as well as spend a bunch of time on the internet looking for lots of new gems. So when I sat down to actually put a mix together I had so much material. On the first pass I had about two hours or tracks that I then had to edit down to just under 80 minutes. Seems sort of silly that I am still sticking to the 80 minute limit which is dictated by a CDs capacity, but I figure it is good to have limits. Forces me to be selective and to save some tracks for the future. To be honest with all the work I have put in the last couple years in finding new Christmas music (new to me), I have enough selections for the next five years easily.
So this year, there are tracks from old records and tracks from new artists. There is even a track from an old 78 I digitized this summer when I spent a month digitizing all the 78s in my collection. There is a track I by an artist named Geena Fontenella that I pulled off of YouTube a couple years ago. I am glad I grabbed it when I did, because it wasn't on her YouTube channel anymore. When prepping the song I discovered that she tried out for American Idol this past season, so maybe she pulled down this Justin Bieber "Mistletoe" cover because it was old and not fitting with her current image. Who knows, I like the track and I'm glad to share it.
Another interesting feature of this year's mix is that it leads off with a track from "Anna And The Apocalypse." This is only interesting if you play this year's mix right after last year's mix because the 2019 mix closes with a song from that new holiday classic film. So load them both up and get an "Anna And The Apocalypse" double whammy. And if you haven't watched "Anna And The Apocalypse" yet, drop what you are doing and do so now. It is wonderful.
