The Cure - Rare 12" Versions - 2007

I bought this album a few years back.  It was an impulse buy on a visit to Amoeba Records.  By that I mean I did not go there to buy the record, but when I saw it I had to pick it up.  There are some good remixes on this record that I had never heard before.  I have a feeling the record isn't in print anymore because I see it going for quite a few bucks on ebay.  I guessing that means that it is out of print.

Another thing I think I am going to do is now post any direct link to download, because it is The Cure.  By that I mean, they are mainstream enough and have the backing of a big label so I think posting a link will just invite trouble.  However as always, if you are really interested in listening to the tracks, drop me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do about sharing the music with you.  In the mean time you can enjoy the album artwork.  Below is the track listing.

Beauty And The Beast/The Beast Lets Belle Go 7" - 1991

This one is a one day only type thing. The 7-inch single from Beauty and the Beast. I'm not even really sure why I'm posting this. You can get these tracks anywhere and I don't plan on keeping them up long. Also my rips have plenty of pops and crackles so you might just want to get the soundtrack on CD or downloaded from your favorite digital store. I guess I thought the scans might be interesting for people to see.

Crutch - Disgruntled Employee 7-Inch - 1994

Picked this record up for cheap last year. Went digging in a 50 cent bin and took a gamble on this. I think my decision was made based on the DYI graphic and record company Bong Load Records.

"Disgruntled Employee" is a good track with some punk rock whoa whoa's. There is something about the track that reminds me of TSOL circa 1985 when they contributed the track "Nothing For You" to the "Return Of The Living Dead" soundtrack.

"Kick My Ass" is also a decent rocker. Neither is a classic, but they both are fine to come up on random every once in a while.

Black Angel's Death Song - In These Time EP - 1992

I'm back and should have a stream of records to share in the coming weeks. I finally got around to scanning a bunch of records and record jackets for some records I digitized about a year ago. I couldn't believe it had been so long. It was about a year ago that I got a bunch of records in the 50 cent bin at Ameoba records and now I can share them. One of the nice finds I got that day was this record by Black Angel's Death Song. Now I don't know much or really anything about this band, except that I like the name. The other thing I can tell you is that the first track "Brothers and Sisters" is rip roaring bashed out fun. Not everything in 1992 was grunge on the alternative rock scene as you will be able to hear on this record. The subsequent tracks "What Will It Take" and "In These Times" are okay, but the real highlight it "Brothers And Sisters". Those tracks are a little slower and do bring up memories of guitar driven grunge, Seattle and that whole time. But like I said, they aren't standouts. "Brothers and Sisters" starts off with a great bass riff, then is quickly accompanied by the drums kicking in giving it even more drive. Then the vocals and crunchy guitars join in and you're off to the races. Clocking in at just 1:44 the song delivers with some sing along accessibility and then gets out. Just what you want in a punk rock song. Love it. Hope you do to.

It's been a while again. Busy at work, which is usually the case when I'm not posting.

I've also been working on a new mix which I should unveil on the blog soon. Need to do some artwork and break up the tracks.

I've also been getting take down notices, which has been driving me crazy. Sometimes I just shake my head. I'm wondering who is worried about some 12" record from the 80's which is clearly out of print. Why is some record company worried about it. I just don't get it.

Anyway, here is something from a completely different world. Independent punk rock from the heartland. No corporate crap with this. Just straight up blistering hard core punk. Clinch your fist and get ready to scream. This is one hundred percent adolescent testosterone.

Chia Pet - Meha - 1993

And the music keeps coming.

This is actually from a CD and not a record. Chia Pet was a band from Chicago in the late 80's early 90's. I saw these guys quite a few times as a kid because the drummer was a good skate buddy of mine. For those who have perhaps read everything I've written over the years you may have picked up on the fact that as a kid I was all about skateboarding. My friends and I had a skateboard team and we called ourselves Team SAP. If you ever wondered where the name for the blog came from, well now you have your answer. So below is a picture of Kurt Stevens who drummed in Chia Pet as well as another great Chicago band No Empathy.

I hadn't listened to this disc for quite a few years and I threw it on last week. It holds up great. The opening track is just fantastic. A song about Valerie Bertinelli, Eddie Van Halen and even a reference to Wolfgang Van Halen who was a child at the time, but is now part of Van Halen.

"Talk About It" is also a really big stand out. This song will get up and dancing for sure. And "Meat Beer And Chocolate" not only has a great title, but the song rages as well.

I've also included a scan of a Chia Pet matchbook that I've somehow managed to keep all these years. Came across it recently and decided it needed to be scanned. To tell you the truth, the matchbook is what kicked off my listening to the CD and deciding I should share the music.

Bob City - Swamp Buggy Racin' 7" - 1998

This is one of the 7" records I picked up last year at Amoeba in a 50 cent bin. I think I bought about 20 records that I knew nothing about. I've been taking my sweet time getting them ready for the blog. This big hold up is scanning the artwork. Anyway, I got nudged yesterday to get to posting something again, because it had been so long. Time flies. Work has been very busy. So I pulled this out today.

Still don't know much about Bob City, but I do think "Swamp Buggy Racin'" is a good rocker of a song. Give it a listen and I think you'll be singing along with the easy to remember chorus "swamp buggy racin'". "Dead Man" is not too bad either.

Budget Girls - Get In Your Ear 7" - 1996

Screechy, raucus fun. The budget girls rock. I don't know if this qualifies as Riot Grrrl or just rowdy garage rock. Whatever. Who needs labels anyways? The girls are having fun banging away on their guitars and doing something close to singing. The record has a fantasticly racey cover. Reminds me of some lame Benny Hill skit or Austin Powers. The record also has a "teabagging" track, probably one of the earliest. I don't know that for a fact, but how many songs about teabaggin do you know and how many were before 1996. "Go Away Geek" cracks me the way they screech and scream. It sounds just like some snotty girls in highschool. The thing is it doesn't sound ironic, it sounds sincere. "Pop A Wheelie" and "French One" are also good tracks. The whole 7" is good. If you ever com across it, pick it up, bcause who knows how long these links will be active.

A Jazzy Wonderland - 1990

This one is a relatively recent release, but even with that said it is nearly 20 years old. There are a lot of great jazzy Christmas numbers. The Harry Connick songs are great. These are from pretty early on in his career. At least for me this in when I first became aware of him. I bought my first Harry Connick, Jr. CD in 1990.

Better get this one fast, because it won't be up long.

Wild Billy Childish & The Blackhands - Who Do You Think You're Kidding Mr. Hitler/Chatham Jack - 1993

Gotta love Mr. Childish. Okay maybe you don't, but I certainly do. This record should catch a lot of people's attention just because the title has Hitler's name in it. That is sort of a lightning rod. The song has kind of a reggae beat to it, which seems a little different for Billy. At least it does to me. It also feels like a pub song.

"Chatham Jacks" has what sounds like an accordion in there. This one sounds like it has a little zydeco to it. I'm not an expert on zydeco, but that is was comes to mind with the accordion and the blues mixed together. It just sounds like it came from down on the Mississipi Delta.

I've never seen, Billy but I do hope to before I die. On a related note, I am extremely upset that Holly Golightly is going to be in LA next weekend at Spaceland when I'm out of town for Thanksgiving. UUUURRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH! I missed her the last time she came across the pond and now again. Hopefully one day the stars will align. By the way I bough her latest effort with the Brokeoffs called "Dirty Don't Hurt" a few weeks back. It also has a rootsy bluesy American flavor to it. A little different than some of the other records I have from her, but still very good.

Anyways, this may be the last "record" posting before we dive into the holidays so have have fun with it.

Dwarves - That's Rock 'N' Roll 7" - 1990

The whole Dwarves experience is summed up in this quote from Blag Dahlia (lead singer). This is from an interview for Skratch magazine back when they released "The Dwarves Must Die"

SKRATCH: Anything to add?
BLAG: What can I say, except: buy the record, see the band, chew the bubblegum, sleep with the singer?it's the only way to go. The Dwarves rule. We shall return. We've done it again. Hide your daughters.

I love that quote. These guys are everything that is rock and roll. That may mean for good or for bad depending on your perspective.

Is there anything else you'd like to plug or talk about in this?
Yeah, I just want to reiterate what the Dwarves are. We've fucked more groupies than the whole pansy ass Warped Tour put together. New bands don't know how to party, just whine to their managers about the deli tray and act like they care about the kids. We sodomize teenagers and dose them with Rohypnol, we beat other bands senseless and steal their gear, we terrorize promoters and rip off the box office. We kick the shit out of label owners and rape booking agents. We are rock 'n' roll, everything else is just a a pale, tired imitation. How’s that?

This 7" was recorded back in 1990. That's Rock 'N' Roll was originally recorded by Eric Carmen and "I'm A Man" was recorded by Bo Diddley. I've included a little flier I picked up at a show last year. I think I've already written about that night of nakedness. You can read about that here.

Anyways, the songs are great. The record is fun. Check it out if you're into punk rock.
